Week 2, 2002

This week’s free agent pick-up order: Komo/Rino; Brungie; Jesse; Jack; Matt; Bri; Jake; Kevin; Brett; Brendan; Protos; Red/Slags

Two weeks down and we’re already starting to see some trends. St. Louis is BAD all of a sudden, and so are the Steelers. New England is for real, and so is New Orleans. I wonder how long these trends will last though. The “Stillers” have a pretty soft schedule after next week, and St. Louis has Marshall Faulk. These trends are leading to a few surprises in our league. I mean, imagine if you drafted the entire St. Louis team? Or were depending on the Steelers to come thru? Your team might be in trouble at this point. But don't panic yet…remember last year’s Bengals and Chargers teams? 4-0 and WHOO HOO! Look out! Then…nothing. So don’t get too excited or bummed out just yet. Moving right along...

The John division SOMEHOW has Arthur sitting atop it again! Are you kidding me?!? 40 points from your kicker and defense!!! You should be ashamed of yourself Brett. But a win’s a win. Jake got a nice win this week, thanks to the stellar play of one Thomas Jones. That’s right, I said Thomas Jones. Who’d a thunk it? I have a milk carton here with Terrell Owens’ picture on it. Anyone seen him? Oh wait, that’s not Owens, it’s Michael Bennett. Jesse has been a toenail short, and a Duece McCallister clinic away from two wins, and has the Steelers on a bye this week…that might turn out to be a blessing though as Jay Feidler is starting to look like Jeff Garcia wants to look. Jesse also has the most points against so far, and the 3rd highest points for, so he shouldn’t be too worried about it…although 0-3 would be hard to recover from. Hmmm…Brunger. Where do we start? Do we start with the RB situation? Or do we dive into this year’s Denver team? So far this season, Denver’s WRs have totaled 25 fantasy points. That’s 4 guys, 2 games… 5 and 1/2 points per game per guy. And that my friends, is why you don’t take 2 WRs from the same team if you already have that QB. Your QB has a bad day, and you’re finished. End of lesson.

Over in the Wayne division, the Protos are riding Marshall Faulk’s coat tails as they try to forecast and predict which one of their mediocre players is going to show up this week. So far, they have done a decent job. They played the Curtis Conway card this week, but who it will be next week is anybody’s guess. Toomer? Mushin Muhammad? Peter Warrick? All you need is Marshall Faulk and ANYONE else I guess. We’ll see how long that lasts. Your beloved Commish ran into the fan blade that is Big Red this week, and the pieces are still scattered around the north side. Yikes! I’m just glad he’s not in our division! Jack is tough to call. He’s got a solid core, we THINK. Will the real Curtis Martin please stand up? Jack got 5 points from his Def and Kicker this week, so it’s a wait and see thing happening. Now, onto the WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE! Komo and Rino. LOW POINT TOTAL! Those poor poor men. All the years of experience on that team…almost 100 years, and they can’t draft for SHIT! This is the second year they decided RBs were over rated, and the second year they’re going to need to make some trades to get some momentum going. I have a feeling next year their draft will look a whole lot different.

Finally (it’s been an hour writing this damn thing already) onto the Gacy division. Red and Slag’s team is just fuckin unstoppable. At least that’s how it looks so far. With Coolpepper, Ahman Green, Fred Taylor, and Jimmy Smith, that’s 4 BIG TIME guys. We can’t even hope for injuries, b/c with Garner, Travis Henry, and Hines Ward, they have depth too. I smell a blow out coming, unlike anything we’ve seen since the 1998 H20 power walk to the championship. Can you say 12-2 Red? SHIT! Brendan is not real happy with his team, but he’s 2-0 nonetheless. Edge looks like he’s back, but where is the rest of the power going to come from? Ant Smith? Don’t think so. Kevin got stuck in a tough ass division. And got stuck with a couple of broke ass QBs. Thank goodness for Duece McCallister. I wonder how this one’s going to pan out? Anyone seen Johnny Morton lately? And then there’s Matt. What happened to Shawn Alexander? He’s combined in the first two games for 21 points. That’s supposed to be a ONE game total! He got that in the FIRST QUARTER of the Oakland game last yr. With Dilfer back, things will turn around though…you hope! Bubba is still looking for the end zone, but Favre is a stud, so he’ll find him. No worries Matt…yet.

OK, good luck to all. Remember, watch your byes. And get your money in! I’m not going to start listing it yet, but you know who you are.
