Update # 9, 2001

(TRADE DEADLINE 11-18 (2 days))

Week 9 was another nasty week in Fantasy Football, for me at least.  Some people had their best scores ever this week.  But no one could top the 141 that Jesse posted a few weeks ago.  Kevin came VERY close scoring 137 with Shaun Alexander going OFF!  But it was not to be.  We are still a very close-knit group at this point.  People 5-4 and 4-5 all over the place.   Look at these standings.  More then half of our league is worse than .500.  That says an awful lot.

We had a pretty good party at Michael’s this weekend.  At one point we were 18 deep.  That’s amazing.  We even had a Moffitt and Chip sighting.  Dan Delaney came out for ONCE!  He didn’t make it ONE time last year, and he was IN the league at that point.  But I’d say it was very enjoyable over all.  It was good to see Brett and Brendan again, and it allowed Brett to do some “much needed” trade talking.  Speaking of trading, this week revealed a lot of moves with the deadline pending.  I was looking over the teams, and realized that only three teams have gone trade-less to this point…Kevin, Protos, and Red.  Seems strange that Brunger and Matt made deals before Kevin especially.  Kevin hasn’t made a move, but not for lack of trying.  He’s made some offers to this point, and one that looked lopsided but turned out to be foolish for the Protos…Week 4:  “Shaun Alexander and Antonio Freeman for Randy Moss”.  I bet the Protos wish they could have THAT one back.

Onto our individual achievements…

MOE is still up for grabs.  Brunger is still the king of mediocrity, and he still hasn’t scored over 100 points (not since week one).  This week saw another ONE point victory.  Squeaking by Brung, but getting it done, and that’s the most important thing.    You have a tough final 5 games coming, anything could happen… Jake ran into a RUTHLESS Marvin Harrison this week, and even another stellar performance from Garcia couldn’t get him over the top.  He’s recently acquired Timmy Brown though, and this makes his team complete.  I am very interested to see how Jake blows it this year.  This will be the third year in a row that Jake has a great team and doesn’t make the playoffs.  Sorry Jake, some things are just predestined… Jeckyle and Hyde lost again. Will the real Team Jesse please stand up? Trent Green is missing in action, and maybe the bye week will help…As soon as Kevin got a whiff of the basement, he busted out with a 137 point BOMB and jumped back into second place in the division. HIGH POINT TOTAL!  Kevin has 30 Running Backs on his team, and he’ll give you one for $500.

The LARRY division is ugly as ever.  Brendan is sitting on a pretty ugly squad, and it’s only a matter of time before he’s out of the running.   LOW POINT TOTAL!  He’s floated along thus far b/c of his divisional competition, but with all the trading and improvement in his division, he’ll be lucky to win two more games… Matt FINALLY made a trade!  Congrats Matt!  Now you have to put up some fight in this division…Jack made another blockbuster move this week, and now is sitting on the two best WRs in the league.  He gave up Quadry and Ladanian to get him, but as I’ve been saying for weeks, Ladanian has been on Milk cartons, so it might not be that bid a loss…  The PROTOS!  2-7, putting a little streak together eh?  Sorry you have to play the ‘New Look Waterboys’ this week, b/c at 2-8, you WILL be officially out of the playoffs.

CURLY is looking like it’s all Brett!  At 7-1-1, it’s going to be hard to overtake him, although he has a couple of interesting byes coming up, and if we play our cards right, we MIGHT be able to topple the giant.  He just acquired Gonzo, but lost Tim Brown, so it’s now Troy Brown’s team, and with Carter disappearing every other week, he might have just made himself vulnerable…Red and Jeff LOVE Marshall Faulk!  He scored them 38 points IN ONE HALF!  Looks like he’s back, but God forbid that knee go out again, if you could only get Trung from…ME! …That’s right, in all of the trading Commish has been doing this week, Trung fell nicely into my lap.  New Look Waterboys is an apt name for the new squad Commish is employing.   FIVE new starters from last week, that’s called OVERHAULING.  Losing the #1 AND #2 draft choice isn’t going to be an excuse for me, good luck guys…Rino and Komo came back hard this week!  It helps when they choose the right guys to start.  Harrison (no choice to make there) came through like he usually does right around the middle of the season, but if I know my favorite Marvin, and God knows I do, we should be seeing the ‘Great Disappearo’ here sooner than later.  Every year Marvin gets owners excited only to vanish when it matters most.  Good luck guys!
